Essential Pre-Treatment Instructions

Proper preparation begins well before your treatment date. During this period, you must discontinue:

These substances significantly impact your healing process by causing:

  • Delayed wound healing
  • Extended recovery periods
  • Excessive scar formation

2 Weeks Before Treatment

During this crucial preparation period:

Sun Protection and Skin Care:

  • Strictly avoid sun exposure and tanning beds
  • Discontinue self-tanning products
  • Begin prescribed 4%-6% Hydroquinone Cream if recommended by your doctor

Stop Using:

  • Electrolysis
  • Waxing
  • Hair removal creams
  • Alpha-hydroxy acids (glycolic acid)
  • Beta-hydroxy acids (salicylic acid)
  • Benzoyl Peroxide
  • Any exfoliating products

10 Days Before Treatment

Avoid these blood-thinning products:

  • Aspirin
  • Ibuprofen
  • Naproxen
  • Motrin
  • Vitamin E supplements
  • Omega-3 supplements
  • Fish oil
  • Any prescribed blood thinners (consult your physician first)

Note: Use Tylenol (acetaminophen) for any necessary pain relief during this period.

  • Continue alcohol abstinence for one week post-treatment

    • Cosmetic creams
    • Hair products
    • Deodorant
    • Sunscreen
    • Piercings

Transportation Requirements

  • Recommended: Arrange for a driver or use ride-sharing services
  • If driving yourself:
    • Allow extra time for medication effects to wear off
    • Remain in the local area
    • Consider getting food or coffee before driving

Post-Treatment Care Instructions

Immediate Recovery Period

Sleep Position:

  • Maintain head elevation at 30-40 degrees
  • Use 2-3 pillows
  • Sleep on your back
  • Purpose: Minimize swelling and optimize healing

Pain Management:

  • Use only Tylenol (acetaminophen) for discomfort
  • Maximum: 4,000 mg per 24-hour period
  • Take with food to prevent nausea
  • Continue avoiding: aspirin, ibuprofen, and Aleve

Compression Care:

  • Wear provided compression garment nightly
  • Continue for 6 weeks
  • Extended wear time correlates with better results

Additional Care:

  • Apply Arnica cream 2-4 times daily with gentle massage
  • Use cool compresses (damp soft cloth) for 10-20 minutes as needed

Activity Guidelines

Work Return:

  • Most patients: Next day
  • Discuss with your doctor if additional recovery time needed

Exercise Resumption:

  • Wait 1-2 weeks before resuming light physical activity
  • Start gradually and build back to normal levels
